The Making of Half Man Half Woman
Hi so glad I finally found Violet Town on your site, I had been looking for it, now I need to hear it again . I remember hearing it in the 80’s in Sydney on an album my last partner had when we met. Having not had the album since around the late 80’s when we moved to Melbourne I have been wanting to hear that song again forever. Tracey
I remember Deborah played a part in a movie either before, or while she was in Do Re Mi, yet there is no mention of this on the website. Strange? Anyway, took my wife, (rather she took me) to a Yothu Yindi concert in Sydney in late 1980’s – very early 1990’s, and supporting act was Deborah Conway soloing. Absolutely brilliant. Told my wife at the time, “If I had known she was so good (Deborah), Iwould have paid the money just to see her.” Wonderful, oh, and by the way, Yothu Yindi were good as well. Cheers, Lyndon.
So…there is a housing crisis; have you even walked around Melbourne lately Deborah, you are charging $70 to see you and Willie play at Bird’s Bar, release no new music and you ask people to go on an overseas trip that is over a GRAND ! ?
I get it…you really have worked your arse off to get where you are and have a sterling voice, but I am somewhat abhorred at the price of a ticket to see you AND asking people to falk out money to go on a holiday with you and Willie ?
When I last saw you both live, I thought you were both great, funny and worth the ticket to get in. I made a couple of jokes about being old for a tour with JPY & other oldies. Now, I can truly imagine you content in an ivory tower with servants and playing where super fund ilk and protocol play.
I do wish you and Willie safe journeys; and all who travel with you, and great you are at a place where you can afford a holiday and relax, but over a GRAND to accompany you and Willie on a holiday ? ! In all the accolades and everything you so deserve, I felt upset enough to compose this, press send and remain anonymous.
Whatever happened to the cynicism of King Of Moomba & the biting of I Need To Complain ? !
The prices to see us at Monash Uni range from $19-$59, cheaper than Bird’s, but the point to all this is that the venues decide what to charge, not us. Some are cheaper, some more expensive. Really cheap venues tend to put on young acts, not old folk like us. The “holiday” is an expedition to Antarctica, not cheap but an experience we can’t turn down, a once in a life time trip. How do we find that ivory tower with servants you are imagining?…..
